Mum of three, Midwife and the owner of The Coastal Birth Club, here in our lovely part of Devon.
Carrie Brown RM, BSc(Hons), FdSc
Midwife | Antenatal Educator | Hypnobirthing Practitioner
Founder of The Coastal Birth Club
I’m a practicing Midwife with over a decade of experience supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period. I’m also a FEDANT-certified Antenatal and Postnatal Educator, a qualified Hypnobirthing Teacher, and have undertaken additional training in a range of areas to enable me to offer specialist support to women and families during this important stage of life. I live in beautiful Exmouth with my husband, our three children and our friendly Labrador, Jagger.
Every day, I have the privilege of supporting women and families through pregnancy, labour, birth and the early days of parenthood. Over the years, I've seen first-hand how powerful good preparation in pregnancy can be and what a difference it can make. I've also seen, and personally know, how overwhelming and lonely pregnancy can sometimes feel. Between well-meaning advice, social media, birth stories and endless information online, it can be difficult to know what to trust or where to start. There’s no shortage of information out there (which is amazing too) — but that doesn’t always translate into feeling confident and feeling prepared deep down
So many women are heading into one of the biggest experiences of their lives feeling anxious or disconnected from their bodies, and I really want to help change that. I wanted to create a space that encourages women to invest in themselves, prepare not only for birth but for motherhood and to see birth preparation as so much more than just learning about labour. It's an opportunity to pause, reflect, build confidence, nurture your wellbeing and develop a deeper trust in yourself as you prepare to grow your family.
With this in mind, The Coastal Birth Club was born.
This is a safe space where expert antenatal education and current midwifery knowledge come together with genuine care, connection and a calm presence. A place that combines evidence-based birth preparation, practical newborn knowledge and real life insight from supporting pregnant women everyday. I wanted to create the kind of classes I would have loved to attend myself — small, welcoming and thoughtfully designed to give you everything you need in one place, so you don't have to try and piece together information from multiple courses, websites and social media posts.
More than anything, I wanted to create a space where you can step away from the noise, take a breath and build trust in your body, your instincts and your ability to navigate this remarkable chapter of your life. My hope is that you leave my classes feeling informed, supported and empowered, with a deeper understanding and belief of just how capable and amazing you already are.
Whether you're expecting your first baby or your fourth, you are so welcome here.
I can't wait to meet you.
Warmest wishes,
Carrie x

Yes, it is completely normal to feel unsure, anxious or scared about birth, especially if this is your first baby, if you have heard difficult birth stories or if you have had previous experiences that make the idea of birth feel worrying. It is completely normal to feel scared.
Antenatal education can help you understand what is happening in your body during labour and birth, explore your options and learn practical tools that can help you feel calmer and more prepared. Many parents find that once they understand the process of birth and the support available to them, their confidence grows significantly.
Techniques from hypnobirthing and birth preparation can help you work with your body during pregnancy and labour, reduce fear or anxiety and help you to approach birth feeling more confident and in control.

Yes. I am a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registered Midwife with over 12 years of NHS experience, currently working across maternity services. This clinical experience allows me to provide realistic, evidence-based preparation for birth and early parenthood that reflects current practice and is relevant to maternity care in your local area.

FEDANT stands for the Federation of Antenatal Educators, the professional body for antenatal educators in the UK. Being FEDANT accredited means that the antenatal education I provide meets recognised national standards for evidence-based teaching and professional practice. It also means I follow a professional code of conduct and undertake ongoing professional development to ensure the information shared in classes is accurate, balanced and up to date. I’m not only a midwife but have untaken specialist training for antenatal and postnatal education. This is so important when choosing your antenatal classes - please do check credentials of any educator.

The Coastal Birth Club was created because I believe antenatal education can be so much more than simply learning about labour and birth. As a midwife working within the local maternity service, I have a unique insight into the care, services and support available to families across Exeter and East Devon. This means the information you receive is not only evidence-based, but also realistic, relevant and aligned with the maternity care you are likely to experience locally. What makes The Coastal Birth Club different is the way we prepare you for the whole journey. Alongside birth preparation, local expertise, hypnobirthing and practical newborn knowledge, we also focus on your wellbeing, confidence, recovery and the transition into parenthood. Our pregnancy and hypnobirthing classes are designed to support you physically, emotionally and practically as you prepare to welcome your baby.
This is the perfect time in life to slow down, reconnect and not feel guilty for focusing on your own wellbeing. As a woman, mother, wife and midwife I only know how easy it is to forget about yourself sometimes. Yet as women, mothers, partners and carers, it can be incredibly easy to put everyone else's needs before our own. At The Coastal Birth Club, we intentionally create space for this. A chance to pause, reflect, build confidence and prepare not only for birth, but for the life-changing transition that follows.
Small group sizes and a beautiful environment, carefully designed to promote calm and relaxation, give you the opportunity to build genuine connections with others at a similar stage of pregnancy. We hold postnatal reunions and place a real emphasis on the importance of connection during pregnancy and the early postnatal period.
My hope is that you leave feeling not only informed and prepared for birth, but connected, supported and part of a community that continues long after the final session has ended.
